Welcome to Hydrogen Community Lolland

The vision behind Hydrogen Community Lolland is to position the region as a European role model for full scale implementation of hydrogen technology. Phase I of the project comprises of an electrolysis facility for the production of hydrogen and oxygen, fuel cells for the electro-chemical production of electricity and heat from hydrogen and equipment that ensures that these installations can be integrated with to the town’s existing energy distribution. The official opening of the Hydrogen Community took place on May 21st, 2007.

Hydrogen Community Lolland chosen as one of the three best climate projects in Denmark

Realkredit Danmark - a prominent building society – has in connection with its Smart m2 Award chosen to focus on projects or businesses that has done an extraordinary effort to reduce the energy and heat consumption, thereby contributing to CO2 emissions reduction.

In November 2008, 19 projects spread across the nation won the award on a local level and received a prize of 30,000 DKK each.
The Hydrogen Community Lolland was one of the three projects that were shortlisted to compete at a national level.

The national award of 100,000 DKK went to the H2College in Herning, Jutland.
It was handed over at Realkredit Danmark’s annual event in the Bella Centre.

Vestenskov is aiming for the “Smart m2 of the Year” award

In November, Hydrogen Community Lolland in Vestenskov received one of Realkredit Danmark’s “Smart m2” awards. This year, the award of 30,000 DKK went to companies and organisations or projects which have made an outstanding contributing to the climate and environment.
A total of 19 applicants nationwide were awarded the 30,000 DKK and the testing and demonstration of hydrogen in Vestenskov was so extraordinary that the parish is preparing for Copenhagen in the beginning of January – Vestenskov has been nominated as one of the three best projects and has the possibility of winning the award of the year of 100,000 DKK.

Award to Vestenskov

Hydrogen Community Lolland in Vestenskov has received the Realkredit Danmark- a prominent building society – “smart m2 award” of 30,000 DKK.

Realkredit Danmark chose to give the citizens in Vestenskov the award for the great work and the positive attitude they have had in the entire process of transforming the village into the first hydrogen community in the world.


Per Roos is presenting the check and diploma to Parish Chairman Mogens Gajda. Next to him is Klaus Jørgensen and Christina Rasmussen from Vestenskov Parish.

The Director of Realkredit Danmark business centre, Per Roos, presented the award of the 30,000 DKK to the Parish Chairman, Mogens Gajda. The award was given with praise.

- You use wind energy for hydrogen though electrolysis for electricity and heat. It is a very exciting project which we will monitor in the years to come and which will - without a doubt - be in the spotlight, said Per Roos among other things.

The citizens of Vestenskov have yet not decided how the money should be spent, but “beautifying the village” will be a relevant topic, said Mogens Gajda.
